How It Started:
When Josh turned 14, two impactful experiences occurred at roughly the same time: he became a certified diver and started wearing glasses. Diving remained a lifelong passion for Josh, who later became a doctor, taught scuba diving throughout college, and pursued advanced diving experiences, including diving at NASA’s Neutral Buoyancy Lab and certification on the Prism 2 rebreather. However, his frustration with prescription eyewear for diving persisted, leading him to establish See the Sea RX. What began as a small operation producing glass lenses in his living room with a full lab setup has since grown into the largest producer of prescription underwater products. See the Sea RX has expanded twice, first to a small showroom in the old Artigiani Center in central Houston and later to a full-scale lab in Spring Branch, Houston.

Bifocal Dive Mask Lenses
We make bifocals for scuba diving masks for those that need help seeing near (computers and gauges) and distance while diving or snorkeling.
-
Single Vision Dive Mask Lenses
Prescription single vision lenses for dive masks and snorkel masks help you see the underwater world clearly. These are generally used for those who are nearsighted.
-
Reading Lenses
Reading lenses for dive masks help you see your dive computer, gauges, or underwater camera system clear, while leaving your distance vision untouched. Our reading lenses are made to order and permanently installed.
How Our Prescription Underwater Products Work:
For most of our products, the process begins with obtaining a copy of your prescription. (If you only need simple reading lenses to see your gauges or dive computer, you can skip this step.) Your prescription includes several key data points, such as:
- Spherical correction (be sure to watch for + or – signs!)
- Cylinder and axis (if you have astigmatism)
- Add power (for bifocals or progressive lenses)
- Prism correction (for conditions such as strabismus or double vision)
- Pupillary distance (for accurate vision correction at different focal points)
Once you have your prescription, you can order a dive mask with prescription lenses or choose from our selection of dive masks, snorkel masks, or swim goggles. For our prescription dive masks, we custom-manufacture glass lenses tailored precisely to your prescription. We find that divers achieve the best visual clarity both above and below the water when lenses are crafted without modifications. Our laminate-tempered glass lenses ensure optimal durability and clarity, providing a mask that offers perfect vision for your underwater adventures.

For swimmers and divers with only spherical correction (minimal or no astigmatism), we offer more affordable stock lens options. These stock lens masks are available in powers ranging from -8 to +4, helping a wide range of individuals see more clearly underwater. However, for those with stronger astigmatism, bifocal needs, or prism corrections, our custom lenses are the best solution.

Our swim goggles and prescription full-face snorkel masks operate differently from traditional dive masks, as they do not use glass lenses. However, we still custom-manufacture these lenses to order.
